Switching from CNC milling to 3D printing

What we did?

Pre-process:

  • Check feasibility for Aluminum to Nylon conversion
  • CAD Design & Engineering

3D Printing:

  • Nylon (MJF PA12)

Post-process:

  • Black finish

In this example we took a part which was originally milled in aluminum using a CNC machine and converted it in to a lighter, cost saving 3D printed nylon part.

We checked the temperature conditions, load, tolerances and requested surface finish. All these requirements could be fulfilled with an adapted 3D printed nylon part.

While changing the material, the part still retains its essential properties while benefiting of all the advantages of 3D printing such as, fast iterations, production on demand and weight saving.
